The summer that I was pregnant with Gage, Peppy and I tried to enjoy our last child-free days together. We bought a kiddie pool and spent countless afternoons doing absolutely nothing. Peppy would make me virgin daiquiris and we would listen to music and talk. One of the main things we talked about was how one day we wanted to open a bed and breakfast on a houseboat. Almost six years later, and we still talk about it. Over the weekend we set a time frame. Twenty years. (You guys had better go ahead and make your reservations for our houseboat B&B. I hear 2033 is going to book fast!)
This week I want to hear about your 'dream' job. Maybe you're already doing what you love, and that's awesome! Maybe you currently don't have your ideal job, but you know what you would like to do one day. Pretend that money isn't an option. That you could be doing anything that makes you happy, and still receive an income that could support you. No answers are silly, because we should all have dreams. If you could have any job in the world, what would it be? And if you are already working your dream job, tell us what you do!
Runners up for me would be opening up a bakery and writing a book (that was actually worth reading.) Maybe I can work on those two while the next twenty years go by. :)

I have gone through SO many "dream" jobs. Pathologist, artist, teacher, actress. Finally I'm a SAHM and I'm pretty sure it's what I want to do, realistically.
However, if we're talking no restrictions? I'd probably still choose actress. I love being on stage. Ooh, or an author. I love writing too and editing. I edit others blog posts in my head all the time, haha.
First of all, my family had a houseboat growing up and it was awesome :) I will totally make a reservation for your B&B for 2033!
As for my dream job - midwife! For me, it's not the money that's stopping me, but the fact that I would have to go back to school for four years (I've already got 6 years of university under my belt). On top of the four years, the fact that it would be a tough job to do with small kids at home. I always say, "maybe when I'm 40...."
photographer, especially birth photography. I just love the beauty of new life and all that occurs to get it here. Just breathtaking
Oh my dreams jobs are pretty much a tie but I'd either read books for a living or name people's kids. No joke! I'd be SO happy doing either of those!
consider me booked for your house boat, like, seriously.
dream job? etsy selling and making things and blogging and being creative. I'm quitting my job in June and going to make it happen (maybe?)
oh, and writing a book also. I've already started on it.
I would love to own a little tea house that also displays local art and sells second hand books and has a space for kids to play that is contained and visiable to their parents but not in the way. I would also love to work on my own art!
Although I absolutely love my job (I know - nerd!) I wouldn't mind having an art cafe - an art studio with a nice little cafe - people can come in, paint, have coffee, sit down with a book, relax and chit chat, have mom meetings, book clubs etc etc...Ah one can only dream! Off to a meeting!
Growing up my dream job was to be a singer lol I even did the talent show circut when i was younger but as I got older I realized ya that just wasn't gonna happen now I just sing in the car and I like it better LOL.. Then my dream job became a OB nurse like Julia Roberts in Steel Magnolias but after I lost my daughter I just realized theres no way I could go through with that.. So about 3 years ago my husband bought me my first big fancy smancy camera and I took pictures in my parents backyard and I remember that I always seemed to have a camera or funsaver in my hands when i was little. It became my dream, I even have dreams about it I dreamed I was the tour photographer for a musician too lol combine both my dreams.. But for now I am happy taking pictures of flowers and selling them and taking photos of weddings, seniors, and portraits. Its funny how your dreams can change over the years. But I am chasing this final one and going for it! I just realized life is too short.
P.S. I would like to book a room at the B&B for September please! :P LOL
Our dream "job" is to not have one. Ha! We've been trying to get into real estate investing for a while now. We've had a few contracts on some properties, and we've always backed out for one reason or another. We want to try and get our first property this year. We plan on renting them out and someday when we have 20 houses, we'll sell them and buy an apartment complex. :D Our only problem right now is that we used all of our investment savings for our homebirth. We still have 300oz of silver in the bank, but we have to put 20% down for an investment property so we still have a few thousand to save for a decent property. So in the meantime, and for Arlo's sake, we're trying to make enough money here at home to where Rusty can quit his day job at the university. We just opened a store that I've been wanting to open for a few years now - - www.thenorthernsea.com. We're getting our first shipment of new stuff in TODAY and I'm so excited. We've been talking about doing this store for a few years now. A few weekends ago, we were like "wait, why aren't we doing this?!" So we did it. Hopefully by the end of the year we can buy our first property with the help of the store, too. Holy moly. What a novel!
Also, I love B&Bs! We had our wedding at one and love love loved it. I love B&B's way more than Hotels/Motels. I'd stay at yours!
I love your and Peppy's idea and dream of owning and running a bed and breakfast!
My dream is to open my own salon. It's my goal to have it opened within the next couple of years. I would love to have it be so successful that we open up many more and eventually I can travel the world and just cook and craft.
Oh man oh man, I can't wait to go stay in your houseboat B&B and then review it on my blog!
My dream job is the one I have now. =]
That sounds AWESOME. I almost bought a kiddie pool this summer so I could fill it up and cool off, now I REALLY want to.
My dream job would be a writer. Like just write what I think and get paid well for it. Or maybe a veterinarian or a doctor. Good question!
Put me down for your b&b!!
My dream job? Singing. Preferably in some part of 4 part group. I love harmony!!! Accompanied by Jeremy on guitar would be awesome, too! Considered pursuing it, but don't want that kind of strain on my family. So I'll stick with being a sahm! ;)
Writing children or young adult fiction would be my dream job. I've also daydreamed about own a bakery/coffeeshop but honestly, that would be too much work for me. I don't think I would LOVE it. I'm too afraid to write books, but maybe one day... God will basically have to drop it in my lap though. :) Right now I'm a teacher and I love it!
to write and illustrate children's books!!! if i knew how to get started (other than constantly drawing/writing them...like what do you do with them after that??) i'd totally try it!!
When I was a kid, I wanted to be an astronomer or astrocartographer. To this day I'm still fascinated by stars and space. I even name my pets after them (Nebula and Andromeda). Realistically, I want to go back to school for carpentry. I went for machine shop for a while, but I think I like wood better than metal. I love to make beautiful things.
I'm definitely making a reservation on that houseboat!
Every time my husband and I have our if-we-win-the-lottery talk, we always say the first thing we'd do is open a small brewery/restaurant to make craft beer and good food and hopefully, great times. No luck with the lottery yet but maybe, with some luck, we'll get that dream into motion and leave our cubicle jobs.
Honestly, I'd love to run a pig sanctuary. Maybe a B&B type setup. I'm crazy for them.
And hey, if you open that boat E and I are going to have to come for a visit. I love water as much as I love pigs.
I've always wanted to be a published novelist. I started writing novels when I was 7. Nothing published yet. Sighhhhh.
I think my dream job would be to get paid to read books because I absolutely love reading and most of the time there's nothing I'd rather be doing except of course quality time with my family.
PS (this is skeletalembrace from LJ, I've made a blog again but I need to get back to regularly updating I've had a lot of family over lately so it's been a little difficult- hope to get back on track soon!) :)
I would love my own bakery - well my sister & i dream of it. If she wins the lottery she always says. Or I'd like to work a zoo. :) But for that I need to go back to college - which is what I really want to do but have no money for!
I always say that if I could make the same money as I do in my current job, I'd totally go back to what I did when I was in school. I worked in the Staples copy center! I love creating things for people without having to work too hard, lol! I love the smell of toner and a new ream if paper :) But seriously no holds barred, I would prob want to be a traveling photographer or journalist. I want to see the world. And also a stay at home mom with a husband that has a gravy job that makes enough for us to be comfy but doesn't need to work long hours so we don't miss him too much and we can travel because his job will pay for it and he gets tons of vacation. And we'd have an Alice, like on Brady bunch... The end!
I always wanted to be a full-time professional photographer and I'm finally doing that! It's super, super scary and I really thought I'd wait longer to start but the timing just worked out.
