not exactly topical tuesday

2.19.2013

I don't have a real question for you this week. I hope you can find it in your hearts to forgive me. Saturday I came down with yet another sinus infection. Sunday Owsley had a stomach virus. And yesterday after school, our neighbor comes rushing over to let us know his daughter has lice. (We take her to school every morning, and Gage played over at their house for four hours on Saturday.)

So I spent the evening reading up on lice, and frantically searching our hair. We appear to be lice free (thank goodness) but I will continue to check our scalps frequently for the next couple of days. I thought about asking how many of you have had to deal with those pesky critters before, but I don't know, that just seemed like a strange thing to ask.

Instead, I interrupt your regularly scheduled topical tuesday to bring up another subject that I've been meaning to mention. And then yesterday Joanna brought it back to my attention.

Spring Fashion Week.....

Would anyone be interested?

If you're not familiar, back in September I hosted a Fall Fashion Week. For an entire week I hosted a daily link up where you could post some of your favorite things to wear during the fall. You can read more about it here. And if you're curious, you can see the actual week with it's participants here. Anyone was welcome to participate. You didn't have to be a reader/follower of my blog. I thought it was so much fun! And there was even a giveaway for either a $50 Toms or Forever 21 giftcard at the end of the week (for anyone who participated.)

I was thinking around the second week of April. Let me know what you think!

When I was little some kids at my school got lice, and for some reason I got super weirdly jealous that I didn't.

That's annoying though. Boo lice! Yay fashion week!

Girl when my oldest was in preschool in the next county over we about shaved all our heads because of lice. He had long hair and we were pulling stuff out washing sheets cleaning each other's hair the whole 9. Only to find out that the little girl in his class he was paired with was eat up with them. They would send her home and mom would halfway treat her hair and send her back. Not bothering to clean anything in the home. A few tricks. Vinegar strips the hair of shampoo and oils that attract lice. If you see an egg or a louse instead of costly formulas with ingredients you can't pronounce break out the mayo. Cover the hair in it thick and wrap in plastic wrap for an hour. The oil and vinegar in the mayo kill eggs and adults and strip any eggs from the hair. Works like a charm.

I would totally participate in fashion week!

Also, I had lice in 5th grade. My mother was very unhappy.

Yay fashion week! I'll participate. And yeah, I wouldn't be too concerned with the weirdness of talking about lice. Pretty sure at least 75% of the mom-bloggers out there have chronicled their (horrific) lice experiences. Fingers crossed that yours stay nit-free.

That sounds like a week we had back in November, we all had the stomach flu, followed by ear infections, and they there were sisters at daycare that had lice. I was the crazy lady who washed everything, looked through their hair and jumped through all the hoops! Good luck with all of that!

Spring fashion week sounds like fun! I have memories of my mom painstakingly combing through my hair and using that RID shampoo when lice were going around in elementary school-yuck! Hope you guys make it out unscathed.

I had lice back in 7th grade, and then my daughter got it four years ago? I think? She got it a couple times because a girl in her girl scout troop had it and the family would NOT treat it because "it just keeps coming back anyway" It was horrible. I became crazy, and my kids still freak out when I say "head check".
I hope that you guys manage to avoid it.

I would love to participate in Spring Fashion Week!

There was a lice epidemic in Arizona at the beginning of the school year: everyone had lice. It was at every school, including Lily's. She managed to stay clean this time, but we weren't so lucky in kindergarten. WHAT A NIGHTMARE. I feel like you should just abandon your house and start over if you get lice because you have to sanitize everything: carpets, cars, beds, bedding, clothes- everything.

Anyway.

Yes, I am in for SFW even though our blog is private now. I will still do it and pass the word around my neck of the woods when the time comes.

If you ever do find yourself in a situation where you need to do lice treatments get a bottle of pure tea tree oil (should be able to find it anywhere) and mix some up with shampoo. Works 100x better than anything marketed for lice removal! I hope you guys are all starting to feel better.

Every time I think about lice my head itches SO BAD that I realize I have it! And then it turns out I don't. Phew.

I am interested in spring fashion week, though I will be even less fashionable than usual on account of my ever-expanding belly! It's worth trying to win the gift card though, if only for some post-pregnancy wardrobe changes! =]

I just read somewhere that mayonnaise kills it? I'm not sure if that is true!

I missed fall fashion week so I would totally like to do spring. I seriously can't wait for spring. It just snowed again today!!

Lice are a scary thing. One time one of my husband's patients had lice, and every day when he came home after taking care of her, he would wash his hair with lice shampoo just to be on the safe side!

Spring Fashion Week for sure! Excite.

I had lice TWICE. Both times my father was amazing and sat there and piled the rinse on my hair and combed my waist length hair with the super fine tooth comb so I wouldn't have to cut it. It is a terrible thing though.

and I think Spring Fashion Week would be fun!

I wanna plaaay!

I've been feeling really mucky lately because I'm only four months post-partum so I'm not feeling that great about myself so it makes it hard to dress. PLUS I'm breastfeeding so everything has to be milk friendly. Super hard. I think this would help me think out of the box when it comes to outfits! YAY
