*On New Year's Eve we were channel surfing and landed on one of the countdown specials. I got to hear Justin Bieber for the first time ever. And I was very unimpressed. The chorus of the song he was singing said something like, "If you loved me, we could be starving, we could be homeless." Excuse me? Is he serious? I wonder how the many starving and homeless people around the world feel about that?
*Pinch me, because I think I might be dreaming. Peppy and I will be married seven years on January 14th. We had planned on taking a weekend ski trip to celebrate. But he got a wild hair to go on a cruise (and we did a bit of finagling) and *I think* we are going to go on a weekend cruise to the Bahamas over the long Martin Luther King weekend. And did I mention it is going to be child-free vacation? I am already feeling anxious about leaving my kids when I will be in the middle of the ocean and unable to be contacted right away if there happened to be an emergency. But I know my boys will be in more than capable hands. And I fully believe that parents deserve to take a break from their duties from time to time. We were husband and wife before we were parents. We will be husband and wife when our kids move away. We've got to put ourselves first every once in a while. (I was pretty astounded at how cheap some of the weekend cruises were. We found some 4 day/3 night trips starting from $149!) We haven't been on a cruise since I was pregnant with Owsley. I can't wait!
*Last week we were getting off the interstate and there was a man standing there with a sign that said he was homeless and asking for money. I rolled down my window and gave him five dollars. When we drove off, Gage asked me what was going on, and I explained it to him. He started to cry, and said, "If I could have one wish, it would be that everyone had a home to go to." I am raising a very compassionate little boy. I am so proud of him.
*I went to the eye doctor and made the switch to daily disposable contacts. I feel like a new woman. Throughout the years, my contacts have become pretty incompatible with my eyes. In high school I would wear them for 12+ hours a day, but now my eyes are just so dry. The only time they would be comfortable would be when they were brand new. I only wear contacts about twice a week anyway, so these are perfect for me. Unfortunately in the past two years since visiting the eye doctor, my vision has gotten worse. I'm at around 20/1000. (-7.5 and -7) I hope neither of the boys inherit my 'profound vision loss.'
*Gage went back to school today. The last two weeks actually went by much faster than I imagined. Yes, there was a lot of bickering and not sharing, but I really think Owsley is going to miss having Gage at home. And I think we have all gotten used to sleeping in until around 7:30, instead of having to get up at 6. This year for Christmas I got my parents to buy us season passes to Early Works/The Train Depot/Constitution Village. Yesterday I took the boys to Early Works. I have a feeling we are going to get a lot of use out of those passes this year. Afterwards we met up with Peppy and had donuts for lunch. The employee accidentally gave us an extra red velvet donut, so me and this smushed little guy are about to make some magic happen.

have fun on your cruise. I went on one for my honeymoon--be careful, our boat added automated tips to my husband and I's card that totaled almost 300$.
That is so sweet about Gage being so compassionate about the homeless man.
I hope you have an amazingly fun time on your child-free cruise. It will be perfect!
Gage made me tear up, that is just so sweet!
Red velvet donuts are second only to chocolate cake donuts, so good choice :)
I've got horrible eyes too (idk what they are 20/? but I'm a -7 something) and they're just getting worse. Both my dad and aunt have had LASIK and my uncle's still rocking his -13 glasses. I wear the contacts you can sleep in, but take them out more often than I'm supposed to make them feel better.
Oh wow, I hope you share your cruise info later on since it was so affordable! I'm pretty sure I can talk my husband into a nice little family vacation at that price!! =D
Also, red velvet donuts?! That sounds so yummy!
What kind of contacts did you get? I have the same problem with dry eyes :(
Have fun on the cruise, that sounds amazing! <3
My husband and I will be married for 7 years on January 9th! :)
Enjoy your cruise! I'll admit it, I'm completely jealous. My husband won't do cruises. He's afraid that he'll get bored. By his logic, if we go to The Keys and he gets bored, we can hop in the car and go somewhere else.
Seven-year itch! Congrats on your anniversary, and you need make no excuses for having a romantic getaway. I would love to do the same sometime!
a cruise?! jealous! have a great time.
also, i'm sure starving and poverty-stricken people wouldn't mind their plight at all if they could suddenly have justin beiber (bieber/beiber?) by their side, whining and complaining.
I really don't like Justin Beiber at all. He is the worst! Like pull up your pants son.
I think thats great that Gage feels so strongly about that. I hope he does later in life too!
I hope you get your vacation. I need one myself with my husband. I don't remember us going on one in like 7 years. Like a whole week away!
Regarding your vision. I am the same way - but just in one eye. I would totally do contacts again. But my glasses hide my oh so dark circles!
Lol! I thought I had terrible eyesight but mine are -4.75 and -2.50! Guess I shouldn't complain! I'm currently wearing my last pair of contacts though, I dread having to go back to the eye dr and pay money for him to tell me I still need contacts then pay to get them!
Woot cruise sounds like a blast :D
I dislike beiber lol I think as he gets older he tries to hard and his talent gets thrown away I mean i have heard the boy sing on youtube but now he is getting his douche y on if that makes sense lol.. plus his videos are extremely.. uh adult like lol his fanbase is tweens and i get he wants to be seen as more adult like but remember your fanbase dude lol
gage is the coolest that was so great what he said!
Hope you have a wonderful weekend girl!
Having poor vision (or is not having good vision?) is the worst! I'm glad the contacts are working out for you. I know I hate wearing my glasses, so I am really grateful for the contacts I wear and that I can wear them everyday.
I am so super jealous about that cruise. I want to go on one. I want to go anywhere, really.
And donuts. Man. Right now I could so go for a donut.
Okay, I didn't know cruises could be so cheap! Now I want to go on a cruise. Maybe I'll look into one for our anniversary. (5 years in July!) I hope you have a wonderful time, and remember, it's healthy to take a break from the kids. It doesn't mean you love them any less, or you're "bad parents". (How ridiculous is that?!)
