grumpy little man

1.25.2013

Yesterday was the 100th day of school. Gage is halfway done with kindergarten. It's kind of overwhelming for me to think about, because for some reason first grade seems so much older to me than kindergarten. By first grade, you're a seasoned pro. Anyway, I received an email from Gage's teacher (the day before) the 100th day, encouraging the kids to dress up like they thought a 100 year old would to help celebrate. I had never heard of this before, but upon googling it, it looks like a fairly common occurrence.

So Gage and I rambled through the closets and put together a last minute outfit. (He kind of looks like the lovechild of that old man from Up and a hobo. But don't tell him I said that.) I was just excited that he wanted to participate. I'm all for dressing up.....Gage is not.
I can totally see Gage as a grumpy old man, sitting in his front yard and angrily spraying the neighbor's children with a garden hose. Then again, I am almost positive that Peppy will do the same thing in 30 or so years. So like father, like son.

You know, I've actually always been able to see Gage as an old man. Even as a baby there was something 'old' about him. And now, even his personality often reminds me of some crazy old man.

This is so cute! And I definitely get that, some kids remind me of old people too!
I heard a funny (but inappropriate) comedy sketch recently that explained how old people tend to listen to the music they listened to and dress like they did when they were young. He was saying how this generation will be in nursing homes wearing sagging pants and bumping rap music saying "You know, sonny boy, your grandmotha was a ho!"
I laughed so hard, then cringed because whoa.

This is perfect for his old soul! And I love the thought of spraying neighborhood kids with a hose. I've never heard of that!
